Laurie Anderson

Dear all here is a link to a video 'Langauage is a Virus' which Ellie and myself will be referring to in tommorrows presentation. Just so you can all gain a further grasp and understanding into her work. In this video Anderson is commenting and scrutinising every day uses of modern language utilising screams of pain and over- dubbed Japense film tracks, thus commenting on the terror of communication as she sees it. Any views you have on this video or any of her work will be welcomed as we will refect on them in our write up.

Anderson's various inventions mentioned today, such as violins and sound suits, feature in this video, which again raises debates about the body and technology; the body and technology both combine to tell Anderson's stories. As both contribute to her works, a merging of the two is inevitable. Another one of Anderson's inventions is her adapted glasses; Giannachi makes the point that even standard glasses equal their users as cyborgs, in that technology intervenes with the natural sight of the body. Anderson's body is certainly effected by the technology around her, as much as techology is altered by Anderson in her works.
